Ryerson Public School in Burlington, Ontario, is just one of many schools, colleges, parks and public spaces currently in the process of renaming. The 19th-century educator Adolphus Egerton Ryerson (after which these sites are named) is now disgraced for his ties to Canada’s Residential school system.

In this press release, written in the guise of the Halton District School Board, I rename the school after the Indigenous leader and educational advocate and pathbreaker Elsie Marie Knott.

Find out more about Knott and her amazing achievements.

Apparently I wasn’t too far off base with my suggestion! This is the name the Board actually chose.
